This is Ganesh Hegde, a former teacher of IIT-JEE Mathematics coaching class (or crass) called IITians' Foundation, headquartered at Mulund in Mumbai.
For starters, I was associated with this sham of an institute from July 2005 to January 2006 before being asked to discontinue for lack of funds to pay my salary !
I still remember the day of interview when I reached Harshad Nimje's office. Nimje, a pot-bellied former IITian student (who some believed had not cleared his BTech from IIT Powai) and the boss of the coaching class was scrambling through some pamphlets trying to figure out his next strategy of milking the student fraternity.
He hurriedly asked me about my modus operandi of coming to his office.I reminded him about the telephonic conversation that I had with him earlier in the day about the job requirement that had appeared in the classifieds of an esteemed newspaper. The job required new lecturers in his class for the three subjects that decided the fate of an IITian aspirant.
I fitted the bill for coaching Mathematics and went to Mulund,Nimje's bastion, filled with enthusiasm.
After Nimje read my resume he muttered something to himself and asked me to comeback later in the evening since he was extremely busy.
I immediately nodded in agreement and left for my home in a nearby suburb called Dombivli.
Later on I rushed back to Mulund for the 'interview' with Nimje at 7:00 pm.
As soon as I reached his class and sneaked through his glass cabin, he smiled at me and called me inside. "Ya sir", he grinned. "Sir ko khurchi do..baitne", he ordered his peon who hurriedly arranged for a chair and requested me to relax. "Sir thodi der baad", Nimje grinned again pointing to the students (customers) who had come for CET counseling.
There were three of them, all HSC students, aspiring to get an engineering seat in one of the motley colleges affiliated to the Mumbai University. The students were pretty enthusiastic about their chances in the CET and praised Nimje's brainchild as the epitome of Mathematics coaching.
Nimje looked at the student with his characteristic ego-filled grin and nodded in agreement.
All three kept discussing about their career prospects with the be-spectacled cigarette addict, not realising that they were arguably making the worst decision of their juvenile life.
All three misguided souls decided to enrol themselves for the CET coaching in Nimje's Foundation that would decided their fate in the city of hope.As soon as they left discussing their uncertain future, Nimje the bespectacled scoundrel, decided to take a Marlboro break. He puffed for a couple of minutes and perhaps thought about his natural ability to take innocent students and their ignorant parents for a bountiful ride.
Nimje suddenly called me for a chat as soon as the cigarette was about to die a slow death.
"Sirrrrr....aa jao", he grinned again.I hurriedly got from the chair and rushed outside the class for my first tete-a-tete with the future "boss".Nimje asked me about my credentials and I told him that I was a BE graduate (first class) from the University of Mumbai in the Instrumentation stream.
Nimje remained calm and questioned me about my job profile."I was a teacher for PLC, an industrial automation tool in a defunct company",said yours truly.Nimje assured me that I need not worry about a single penny if I joined his class as a Math faculty. His looks suddenly became mysterious which should have sent the alarm bells ringing in my head about his dark nature. But nothing seemed to go to my cluttered brain as I nonchalantly accepted his job offer.
The payments were pretty similar to my earlier job and hence I gleefully agreed to be a part of the JEE circus. My soul must have cried foul but I went with my brain's gesture, not aware of the disaster that was to occur 6 months down the line.

what disaster?
ReplyDeleteDear Ganesh Sir,
ReplyDeleteI was a student at IITians' FOUNDATION when you were teaching for the 11th std. batch and unfortunately, for you, I was the only girl student to have cleared the IIT-JEE alongwith many other students from the same Coaching Class.
Presently I am doing my Engineering and I am still in contact with Mr.Harshad Nimje.
Just for your kind information,
I cleared the IIT-JEE, AIEEE, BITSAT and did extremely well in the CET also.
I want to share my experience of your teaching and my coaching with everyone who will read this.
0. Harshad Sir is the most elegant person I have ever met. He is one person, who at the expense of his own loss, will make certain that the students never suffer for anything. Since you are not aware of what sort of struggle and hardship he has faced, it was not right for you to comment on him like this. As a student, I felt very safe in his class, because I knew that he would give me the best education and he has given me the best coaching.
1. It was us, the students of IITians' FOUNDATION, who requested Harshad Sir to discontinue your coaching.
2. I have never seen Harshad Sir smoking in the office
3. Harshad Sir is like FAMILY and I think it is high time that I should set the matters straight for a family member.
4. When you used to teach, nobody beyong the 1st bench was able to listen to what you were saying.
5. You hardly had any confidence while teaching and you were also not able to communicate properly.
6. It is very surprising that a , supposedly first class student, from a LOCAL ENGINEERING COLLEGE, is not even able to solve a simple Derivatives problem of CHAIN RULE.
7. For the first 5 months, when it was the 11th Std. syllabus, it was ok with you. Because Harshad Sir was also solving the doubts. He told us that u were undergoing a training session.
8. In December, during the Christmas Holidays, when Harshad Sir was also busy with his lecture, we realised that you could not even solve our simple doubts which we raised in the lecture.
9. You teaching style was totally based on solving the problems. It had nothing to do with understanding the concepts. This was obvious because you have never appeared for and cleared the IIT-JEE or any National Level Competitive Exam.
As a student, whom you have taught, I have a some suggestions for you...
a. Next time before you say anything about anyone first look at yourself and see if you are competitive enough to judge a person.
b. I don't think that you have the TALENT to make it as a TEACHER so it is best that you stick to your 9 to 5 job.
c. In case you do want to enter the Coaching Industry, please follow the simple rule that Harshad Sir has always told us...
"While solving a problem, don't look for the solution or the answer. Look for the RIGHT APPROACH. The solution will come on its own."
yeah i too agree .that harshad sir is good by nature ...and all the teachers of foundation are very good..indeed am one of the student who beolngs to that class..and trust me ...sir provides us with all the study materials ..only the problem is with test series ...which we can get it from fitjee or BT ...i have no complaints regarding it
ReplyDeleteI am an IITian's Foundation product, a Graduate from NIT Trichy, MBA from School of Petroleum Management, Marketing professional working for Oil & Gas MNC in Mumbai. I am still in contact with Harshad Sir and He's has always been very kind to me since I know him.
ReplyDeleteMr. Ganesh Hagde, I believe every relation is two-sided, you cannot blame someone for unsatisfactory commitments which again, has to be two-sided. Since, we read a one-sided story its now a question of your credibility, joblessness and associated frustration. "Aur waise bhi, addalat sabut mangti hai", Mr. Hagde, got any proof??
